Police Attack on Girls Students
Islamabad: The Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights (PCHR) has criticized the inhuman police torture on the students of OPF Girls College Islamabad. Commenting on the incident, Chairman PCHR, Mr. Riaz Fatyana MNA, said that the rod-beaten torture of police on girls is sheer violation of basic human rights as the students were protesting for the sake of their legal rights concerning issuance of degrees. The college management is responsible for the occurrence of this depressing incident. Mr. Fatyana maintained that the mismanagement of college staff cannot be foisted upon students, and that the students have legal right to demand their degrees. He added that gravity of the matter is that the police personnel have committed lathy charge upon students inside the boundary of the college and it indicates that there exists alleged unholy alliance between college management and the police.
Talking on the incident, Executive Director PCHR Ms. Kashmala Tariq MNA, said that the recent resolution passed by the National Assembly came at right time which considers violation of women rights to be an act of terrorism. She said that such types of inhuman and brutal torture are attempts to make dent in the concept of enlightened moderation envisaged by the President Pervaiz Musharaf. Chairman Mr. Riaz Fatyana and Executive Director Ms. Kashmala Tariq demanded immediate suspension of those police personnel involved in the incident and underlined the need for investigation of the case so as to bring to light the malpractices and corruption of the college staff on whose negligence and laxity the incident has happened.
