PCHR welcomes verdict of Supreme Court on arrest of Mukhtaran Mai’s Culprits
Islamabad: Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights appreciates the recent decision of Supreme Court concerning arrest of the culprits involved in Mukhtaran Mai gang rape case. Commenting upon the decision, Executive Director PCHR Ms. Kashmala Tariq, MNA said that it is victory of civil society in the country. She said that cancellation of bail and issuing orders for the arrest of the culprits shows the supremacy of rule of law in the country. She remarked that due to popularity of the case at international level, the initiative of the Supreme Court will contribute to improve the good image of Pakistan abroad.
Chief Coordinator PCHR, Mr. Shafique Chaudhry praised the efforts of civil society organizations for raising their voice against human rights abuses. While commenting upon the decision, he said that collaborated and unified efforts are certain to produce positive results. It is an outcome of the efforts by civil society organizations. Both Kashmala Tariq and Shafique Chaudhry further said that it is responsibility of all the concerned officials to ensure smooth proceedings of the case in the court so that the culprits do not go scot-free.
