Workshop on Psychological Rehabilitation of Quake-victims

in Islamabad on 15th to 16th November 2005

 

 

Islamabad. In a wake of historically worst earthquake in Pakistan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan has formed a National Task Force under the supervision of Chairman Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights Mr. Riaz Fatyana MNA. The National Task Force is going to work for the psychological rehabilitation of quake-victims. The NTF is going to start two days workshop Islamabad on 15th to 16th November 2005. The workshop is being conducted with the collaboration of Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights and Pakistan Psychological Association (PPA). Chairman PCHR Mr. Riaz Fatyana MNA and consultant psychologist as well and Dr. Shohaib Shahid from PPA will train the master trainers.

 

These master trainers will be sent to affected areas of Muzafarabad where they will train the other people of the affected areas. As 3.3 million people are affected by the quake and they are also plagued with psychological fear and trauma, therefore, situation necessitates provision of psychological services on large scale. Mr. Riaz Fatyana MNA said that will work in three phases and this scheduled workshop is being organized as first phase of the program. He said that the team of these master trainers comprising of expert psychologists will work in the base camps of affected areas in collaboration with other volunteers and social workers.
