Effective mechanism is sine quo non for protection of women rights
Islamabad. Government is making its best efforts to empower women in all walks of life. It was said in an interactive dialogues organized by Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights Islamabad on the arrival of Her Excellency wife of Archbishop of Canterbury Ms. Jane William.
In her address to the participants, Executive Director PCHR Ms. Kashmala Tariq MNA said that need for progressive laws is imperative to ensure empowerment of women in socio-economic and political structures. She said that we need to understand the teachings of Islam in true spirit concerning treatment to the women, only then we can conceive of gender equality in our society. She highlighted the main contours of honor killings bills and suggestions to improved Hadood Ordinance in Pakistan.
Ms. Kashmala Tariq MNA emphasized upon the phenomenon of unity to accelerate the efforts underway for the empowerment of women in real sense. She referred the case of Mukhtarn Mai and Dr. Solangi which have been successfully resolved by the coherent and cogent efforts of civil society organizations.
Her Excellency Ms. Jane William said that both Islam and Christianity do not put any bar to the mental, social, economic and political development of women. All we need to adopt tolerant attitude to enable women to have freedom of speech and expression.
In the end, Ms. Kashmala Tariq appealed Ms. Jane William to send more nuns and fathers to Pakistan so as to educate the people of Pakistani community particularly the people of quake-hit areas. Large number of people from academia, media and civil society organizations participated in the interactive dialogues.
