PCHR Delegation will visit District Camp Jail Lahore

 

July 13, 2006: Under its jail reform programme, a delegation of Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights will visit District Camp Jail Lahore on Friday July 13, 2006. The delegation will be consisted of Commision’s Chairman Riaz Fatyana (MNA), its Executive Director Kashmala Tariq (MNA), Mehnaz Rafi MNA, Khawaja Saad Riffique MNA, Zaheer Abbas Khokar MNA and Chief Coordinator Shafique Chaudhry.

 

We have started a series of jail visits to reform them. In this context, we have visited Adiala jail and now going to visit camp jail, Shafique Choudhry stated. This is an important programme berceuse our jails need lot of improvement. We will make comparison of current situation with the previous one when during last year PCHR delegation visited the Camp jail. During the previous visit, we have pointed out certain misconduct and irregularities in the jail. Now it is the time to reevaluate the performance of jail authorities and check any improvements.

 

After the jail visit, the delegation will call upon to Inspector General Prisons, Punjab to discuss the wide range of issues of mutual concern i.e. the current situation of jails, provision of basic facilities to prisoners, redress the torture issue etc.
