The safety of journalists and ending impunity for crimes against them are essential to preserve the fundamental right to freedom of expression, guaranteed by Article 19 of the Constitution of Pakistan. Freedom of expression is an individual right, for which no one should be killed, but it is also a collective right, which empowers populations through facilitating dialogue and participation in the democratic process and thereby makes sustainable development possible.

PCHR and UNESCO are undergoing to conduct a series of activities High-level advocacy and consultations on existing legal framework including review of PECA 2016, and pending bill on the safety of journalists and to Support parliamentary intervention/engagement on international obligations, UPR recommendations among other UN human rights instruments pertaining to Freedom of Expression and Safety of Journalists.
